The Medway Photo Festival was set up by the photography department at UCA Rochester in 2009 and this year’s eighth edition will be open from 19th January 2017 to 24th January 2017. The festival takes place in Rochester and Chatham and features exciting new work from our students in their 2nd year studying BA (Hons) Photography, BA (Hons) Fashion Photography and students studying MA Photography at UCA Rochester.

Expressing one’s ideas, critically engaging and inspiring audiences, and making a significant contribution to visual culture is the desire that can be attributed to the work of our students on show. The festival is driven by our students’ work and demonstrates their interest in taking risks, exploring and developing their interests in visual form.

Our students understand that their actions as people as well as photographers have an interconnected relationship with people at every local, regional and global level and most importantly they are able to harness the power of photography to communicate and draw upon their cultural, social as well as political knowledge and interests.

We trust that our students will have something important to say about life in this world in order to inform, challenge and captivate not only themselves but you, their audience.
